‘Smiling Budha’ (Pokhran-1) was the entitled code name of India’s first nuclear bomb test on 18 May 1974. This successful nuclear bomb was blown up in the Army base Pokhran Test Range, in Rajasthan, by the valient Indian Army. This operation was conducted under the surveillance of several eminent Indian generals.
Pokhran 1 was significant and prestigious as it was the first nuclear weapon test by a country separately from the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. This test was based on the pipeline of the nuclear program initiated by Homi Jahangir Bhabha. Contrary to this there was a plight and infliction of common people who were affected by the fallout of this program.
