About the Author

Bipan Chandra is the bestselling author including India’s Struggle for Independence, History of Modern India, India Since Independence, Adhunik Bharat Ka Itihas, and India After Independence: 1947-2000. He was a prolific writer, who founded the journal Enquiry and wrote several books on colonialism, nationalism, and communalism in modern India.

Bipan Chandra was born in Himachal Pradesh(Kangra). He was educated at Forman Christian College, Lahore and at Stanford University, California. He was the professor of modern history at JNU(Jawaharlal Nehru University), New Delhi, member of the University Grants Commission and chairman of the National Book Trust.
